Violas

The viola is a musical instrument from the family of stringed instruments, similar to the violin, but larger in size. It has a deep and warm sound, with a range of notes between that of a violin and that of a cello.

While the violin is often considered the main instrument of the orchestra, the viola has an important role in orchestral and chamber music, providing a deep and rich note that enriches the sound of the ensemble. The viola can also be an impressive and expressive solo instrument with a wide range of playing techniques including tremolo, glisando, pizzicato and more.

The viola is similar in shape to the violin, but larger and wider. It has four strings, which are tuned in the range of C, G, D and A, starting with the thickest string. These strings are made from a variety of materials, including gut, steel wire, and synthetic fiber.
